Excerpt from ILRoute53.org: (Updated May 2017) The next phase of study to examine the feasibility of the IL Route 53 expansion project is moving forward. The Illinois Toll Highway Authority Board approved spending $25 million for an environmental impact study (EIS), which will take approximately three to five years to complete. The study will help answer many of the questions about what kind of road, where it would be built, or if any road should be built. The EIS process will also include a robust public information and engagement program.
